The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against unknown persons for allegedly using Prime Minister’s name to con people through a purported loan scheme. Interestingly, the premier investigating agency has taken nearly 11 months to register a case in this regard.

The perpetrators of the scheme had allegedly given a misleading advertisement in a leading national daily on July 11 last year, offering loans under the “Pradhanmantri Jan Kalyan Yojana” with no file charge, no guarantor with zero per cent interest, 60 per cent rebate within 12 hours by logging on

the name of Prime Minister has been misused,” it alleged.
The CBI had received a complaint from PMO Joint Deputy Director Pritendra Kumar. The CBI has registered a case under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating) read with Indian Penal Code on October 25.
This is the not the first case. On January 27, 2017, the CBI had registered a case into an alleged con attempt by Uttar Pradesh-based individuals who created a website named “Narendra Modi Computer Saksharta Mission” to mint money from gullible applicants. A case has been registered against Atul Kumar and Jagmohan Singh, both residents of Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly creating a website to make money in guise of giving admission and distributing franchise.
On December 22, 2016, the CBI had registered an FIR against unknown persons after receiving a complaint from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) that alleged some persons could be duping the unsuspecting public to subscribe to fraudulent loan schemes, claiming these were launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The incident came to light when a resident of Himachal Pradesh’s Solan approached the PMO and informed that he was cheated by a woman who said she was the processing officer of a loan scheme called the Trust Fund loan Scheme.
