CBI registers PE against 6 cricketers for fudging age

The CBI on Monday registered a Preliminary Enquiry (PE) against six under-16 cricket players and unknown cricket body officials for allegedly tweaking their birth certificates.

Agency sources said the players in alleged connivance with unknown DDCA officials falsified the birth records of players in order to ensure their participation in certain matches played under the category.

Earlier, the CBI had in July registered a similar case against 30 cricketers in Odisha for falsifying the birth records of the players.

Both the enquiries were instituted after the agency mounted surveillance on some cricket body functionaries.

“At the moment, a PE has been registered against the players suspected to have falsified birth records. We will begin quizzing the suspects and some officials of DDCA soon. Once we gather enough material evidence, we may convert the PE into a Regular Case,” an official said.
