Yet another chit fund company came under CBI glare as the agency on Friday raided the offices of Suraha-Sunmarg micro-finance company which had been operating largely from Bengal.A team of 70 officers raided 15 offices of the company in various places like Diamond Harbour, Konnagar, Dum Dum and other parts of Howrah, Hooghly and North 24 Parganas, sources said adding some documents were also seized. Raids were also conducted in the company’s Mumbai, Odisha, Bihar and Assam offices.
Sunmarg had largely operated from Bengal and a scam of at least Rs2,500 crore was suspected, an official said circumventing posers on whether they had come across names of any powerful persons associated with the company which had “clearly violated the Sebi guidelines in collecting funds from the market.”
The raid is a part of the investigation being conducted by the CBI under a Supreme Court order to look into the “larger conspiracy” angle into the much talked about Saradha chit fund case.
Meanwhile, there was “no improvement” in the condition of the jailed Bengal Minister Madan who was undergoing treatment in the Govt-run SSKM Hospital.
