The CBI on Monday conducted nationwide searches in connection with the Sheena Bora murder probe at 10 locations — including media baron Peter Mukherjea’s houses in Mumbai and Goa and key accused Indrani’s ancestral home in Guwahati. The sleuths also questioned Sheena’s brother Mikhail Bora.
Meanwhile, the judicial custody of Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyam Rai was extended by the court in Mumbai till October 31.
CBI teams swooped down on the residences of Indrani and Peter in Mumbai and Goa, besides two residences of Sanjeev Khanna in Kolkata. The sleuths also searched Indrani’s driver Shyamvar Rai’s houses in Mumbai and Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, agency sources said.
The sources said agency is looking for some specific corroborative material, which cannot be revealed at this stage, on the basis of inputs received during the questioning of Indrani, Sanjeev, Peter and Rai.
They said the agency is now looking at the possible motives behind the killing of Sheena, Indrani’s daughter.
Indrani, Khanna and Rai have been arrested on the charge of murdering Sheena and disposing of her body in a forest in Raigad near Mumbai in April 2012. 25-year-old Sheena, Indrani’s daughter from her first marriage, was murdered on 24 April, 2012, and her body was burnt and disposed of the next day.
On Monday, in Mumbai, magistrate NB Shinde extended the trio’s remand for 12 days after it came to an end on Monday. None of the accused was produced in court. “The court has extended their judicial custody till October 31,” said defence lawyer Shreyansh Mithare.
Mithare also said that Rai has written a letter to the court saying that he wants to reveal something to the court in person. The court may issue production warrant for him, said the lawyer.
