After the five persons accused in the Badaun rape-cum-murder case were cleared in the lie-detector test, the CBI has decided not to oppose their bail pleas. These accused are undergoing judicial custody at present.
The CBI is likely to recommend disciplinary action against Uttar Pradesh police officers who probed Badaun rape and murder case for apparently carrying out a “shoddy investigation”.The agency’s tentative moves come as technical evidence collected so far indicates that they do not have any direct role in the alleged rape and murder of two teenage sisters, agency sources said.
Evidence gathered so far by the CBI does not confirm the allegations mentioned the FIR that was originally registered by the UP police. The change in CBI stand comes after it received the reports of Central Forensic Science laboratory (CFSl), which conducted three important tests — forensic psychological assessment, forensic statement analysis and polygraph (lie-detector) test on the accused.
These tests were conducted to check the authenticity of the statements given by the five accused including brothers Pappu, Awadhesh and Urvesh Yadav besides UP Police constables Chhatrapal Yadav and Sarvesh Yadav who had claimed innocence during CBI’s investigation. Two victims were allegedly gang-raped and murdered with their bodies found hanging from a mango tree a day after they went missing on May 27 this year.
