CBI grills Tejashwi for 4 hours

The CBI sleuths on Tuesday visited 10, Circular Road, the official residence of former CM Rabri Devi and interrogated her son and leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav for four hours.

The CBI sources later on denied that they raided the former CM but confirmed that its seven member team engaged Tejashwi for questioning for four hours. The CBI action was in connection with railway hotels tender scam which dated back to 2004-09 when RJD supremo lalu Prasad was railway Minister in Manmohan Singh Cabinet.

Some eight months back the CBI had filed an FIR naming lalu, Rabri and Tejashwi and in October and November last Enforcement Directorate had interrogated former Deputy CM Tejashwi for seven and nine hours in its Delhi and Patna offices. The CBI action came at a time when lalu is in jail and currently under treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi.

The RJD reacted sharply to the CBI action on Tuesday and called it stage managed. RJD spokesman Shakti Singh Yadav said, “It appears that PM Narendra Modi brought CBI team with him.” He also referred to the preparations for the marriage of Tej Pratap Yadav next month and alleged that CBI raid was held to make the family members embarrassed.

RJD vice president Shivanand Tewary too made similar allegations. He said, “”It cannot be mere coincidence that CBI raided Rabri’s residence when PM visited Bihar and raids stated the moment PM finished his speech at Motihari . Where had been the CBI for eight months and why no charge sheet has been filed so far. It is in the knowledge of common people that Tejashwi is being targeted.

Countering the RJD charges, JD(U) spokesman Ajay Alok retaliated, “CBI’s action is not like a marriage to be guided by muhurat . The agency can go to the residence of any accused person without informing or through a muhurat.”
