legal consequences” loomed large over Kolkata Mayor and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s blue-eyed boy Sovan Chatterjee after he ‘failed’ to recall having transacted with Narada journalist Mathew Samuels who had shot a sting video where Chatterjee purportedly accepted cash worth lakhs from the senior journalist sitting inside his Mayoral office.
To facilitate his sting operation the scribe had allegedly faked as a prospective investor seeking favours for making investment. In due course he met at least a dozen senior MPs and Ministers and greased their palms with wads of currency notes, the footage showed.
The Mayor reportedly claimed during his interrogations that he could not remember having met or transacted with the person as there were numerous such people who meet him every day, sources said.
