n The CBI on Monday said it has registered a case of alleged post-poll violence in West Bengal. With this, the total number of cases in post poll-violence has reached 45.

The CBI has been taking over cases relating to violence in West Bengal after the Assembly polls in the State earlier this year.

“It was alleged that the accused attempted to rape the victim. It was further alleged that the complainant was returning home along with her friend from her relative’s house at Kandi, Mrushidabad when few youths intercepted the complainant and her friend,” the CBI said in a statement.

The agency further said, “It was also alleged that youths raped her friend, and one youth attempted to rape the complainant. The victim in the present case had allegedly complained about the incident to local Police, but no case was registered. As such, a fresh case has been registered by CBI.”

The CBI had earlier registered a separate case on August 25, 2021, taking over the investigation of the case earlier registered at Police Station Nabagram in Murshidabad district vide FIR No. 114/2021 dated May 10, 2021 against three accused on the allegations of gang rape of the friend of the complainant in this case, it said.

CBI has so far registered 45 cases related to violence and other offences in West Bengal.
