The CBI has booked its own head constable Sudesh Kumar in a criminal case for stealing a bag containing Rs 6 lakh during a search operation at the residence of retired Wing Commander YS Tomar at Sainik Farms in the national capital.

Kumar, who was tasked to secure the backside of the residential premises of Tomar at Western Avenue, Sainik Farms on Friday,  intercepted the bag while a maid was trying to throw it out of the bathroom window.

The Deputy SP and search team leader had deployed Kumar, also a member of the raiding party, to secure/control the backside of the house where the servant quarters are built.

Kumar threatened the lady servant, locked her in the servant room and removed the bundle from the bathroom window, according to the FIR.

The conduct of Kumar came to light when Gaurav Tomar, a relative of the accused, told the Deputy SP that the Head Constable stolen huge cash in a bundle that was being removed from the bathroom window.

On being confronted, Kumar disclosed the places where he had hidden the stolen money. On his disclosure, Rs 2 lakh was recovered from the scrap lying at the backside of the premises and Rs 4 lakh from under the sofa of another relative of the accused.

Being a member of the search team, Kumar should have informed the team leader and handed over the bag containing the cash.  The FIR said Kumar abused his official position, threatened and locked the lady servant in the servant room and hid the cash with dishonest intention and did not report to the team leader.

The agency slapped charged under the Indian Penal Code including 342 (wrongful confinement and 380 (theft from a residential building) besides relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
