CBI chief submits his side of story to SC

Published on:

The CBI Director on Friday submitted his defence to the Supreme Court in a sealed cover over the allegation that he frequently entertained 2G scam accused as guests at his official residence.

The response came on an application by NGO Centre for PIl seeking CBI Director Ranjit Sinha to be removed from the investigations following this development. The NGO’s counsel Prashant Bhushan even submitted the original record of the entry or guest register maintained at CBI chief’s residence to lend credence to its claim.

Sinha is understood to have doubted the veracity of the logbook as in a separate affidavit filed in court the CBI chief has challenged the maintainability of the application. The Court will take up both the affidavits on Monday. On September 8, the bench headed by Justice Hl Dattu had issued notice to CBI chief terming the allegations as “serious”. Bhushan also moved a separate application before the Supreme Court Bench hearing the coal scam which had on Friday taken exception to Sinha entertaining coal scam accused at his residence.

In that regard too, CBI chief has to file an affidavit by September 19.
