The National Green Tribunal on Monday sought response from all the State Governments, seeking a nationwide ban on slaughter of indigenous breeds of cattle.
A Bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar made all the States parties in the case, issuing notices to them besides National Bio Diversity Authority. It has sought their reply by February 2, which has been fixed as the next date of hearing.
The direction came in the wake of hearing of a petition filed by advocate and environment activist Ashwini Kumar. He had approached the green panel against the growing threat of extinction of indigenous cattle breeds across the country.
