The Kerala Police on Monday registered a case against Thrissur-based beedi tycoon Muhammad Nisham, who is serving life term in jail for brutally murdering a security guard, for issuing death threat to his two brothers over the phone while in jail even as they wanted to withdraw a complaint they had lodged against him on Friday.
The police initiated the case on the basis of the statements given by Abdul Nissar and Abdul Razaq, Nisham’s two brothers, who had complained against him, and two of his friends and evidences collected in a preliminary investigation. The police at Anthikkad, a few kilometers away from Thrissur, are in charge of the investigation.
Nissar and Razaq had lodged the complaint on Friday evening along with the voice record of the phone conversation between them and Nisham during which he allegedly threatened to kill them. They had reiterated the allegation against Nisham during the recording of their statements on Saturday.
However, they submitted a letter to R Nishantini, Superintendent of Police (Rural-Thrissur), on Monday expressing the wish to withdraw the complaint just minutes after a case was registered against Nisham. They said they had lodged the complaint under sudden provocation and wanted to withdraw it due to matters related to their family.
The case, however, would not be frozen at this point as it had been initiated as per evidences collected during primary inquiry and probe by the Cyber Cell of the police and the statements. As per the case, Nisham has been slapped with the charge of issuing threats and using abusive language against others.
Nisham, a businessman with interests in tobacco, real estate, etc had brutally attacked Chandrabose, security guard at the posh Sobha City residential complex at Puzhakkal near Thrissur where he was a resident, in the wee hours of January 29, 2015 for being late by minutes to open the facility’s gates when he reached there in a Hummer SUV.
The businessman first rammed the Hummer into the guard several times and later beat him up in a garage inside the residential complex. Chandrabose succumbed to the injuries he suffered in the attack at a private hospital near Thrissur 18 days later.
At the same time, the number of police officials to be suspended for bestowing undue favours on Nisham rose to nine with the suspension of three policemen the other day for providing help to him on way to a Bangalore court from the Central Prison, Kannur.
A secret meeting between Nisham and Jacob Job, then Police Commissioner, Thrissur, during the probe into the murder of the guard had become a huge controversy and Job was suspended at the end of a probe. later, a sub-inspector and four policemen were suspended for arranging a meeting at a hotel between Nisham and relatives while he was being taken to a court.
Meanwhile, Opposition leader in the Kerala Assembly, Ramesh Chennithala, submitted a letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan complaining that he had been receiving phone messages from abroad threatening to kill him or some member of his family if he spoke against Nisham.
As per the complaint, Chennithala had been receiving the threat through Internet-based phone messages for the past two days. The last such message was received at 11.22 PM, Sunday, he said in the complaint, in which he also stated that the messages had come from one Don Ravi Poojari.
