According to reports, the locals found two female pachyderms and a calf at Asurkhol under Tileibani block in the Prabhasuni Reserve Forest of Deogarh Range in morning.

The bodies would be sent for postmortem, after which the cause of the death could be known, a forest official said.

Notably, another elephant had strayed into Asurkhol village last Sunday (June 5) and was lying at a place in Kapasira forest for three days, after which locals had alerted forest officials.

However, it succumbed to the infection three days after undergoing treatment.
