Capital's air quality turns moderate from severe

Delhi's air quality status has turned "moderate" from "severe" on National Ambient Air Quality Index (NAAQI) on Thursday. With 11 km per hour speed in North -West direction, the air quality will remain good for next three days according to NAAQI.

While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light showers on Friday afternoon, the air quality forecast on Air Quality Index (AQI) are also showing low concentration of primary pollutants in city air.

According to the real time ambient air quality meters of the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), the quality of air in different region of city is recorded "improved".  The meters also have recorded the flow of wind which was recorded between 9 km per hour and 11 km per hour.

Particulate Matter (PM) 10 at most polluted area of the city Anand Vihar was recorded at 445 Micro Cubic per gram (µg/m3))whereas, the value of the pollutant remained above 850 (µg/m3). While in other parts , instance -Indira Gandhi Airport, Mandir Marg , Punjbai Bagh and R K Puram ,the values were recorded relatively less.

Significantly, value of PM 2.5 at different places was recorded at (49, 60, 57, 70) µg/m3.

Average concentration of pollutants on SAFAR (System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research), a unit of Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) has recorded both PM (10, 2.5) at 220 µg/m3 and 120 µg/m3 respectively.

Meanwhile, IMD has predicted light shower with dust storm for Friday. "The adequate amount of rainfall with wind speed will help to wash out the Suspended Particulate Matters (SPM) from city air," said an environmentalist.

Moreover, the Air Quality Index (AQI) of Central Pollution Control Board  (CPCB) , Ministry of Forest and Environment (MoFE) also measured low concentration of SPMs.

Interestingly, values of other pollutants like nitrate of oxide, benzene were also measured under their prescribed limits.
