The Division Bench of Calcutta High Court on Friday refused to bring forward the hearing process of an appeal filed by the Bengal Government on the stay ordered earlier by a single Bench over the conduct of panchayat elections.
The Division Bench hearing an appeal filed by the State Government refused to grant an earlier date for hearing and fixed it for Monday when the SEC was likely to file a comprehensive status report on the filing of nominations and the conduct of the poll process thus far.
In an unprecedented order the Single Bench of Justice S Talukdar had earlier stayed the poll process till April 16 after the Opposition parties brought a petition complaining lop-sided orders issued by the State Election Commission while dealing with electoral malpractices that included forcibly stopping the opposition from filing nomination by the ruling Trinamool Congress goons.
