CAA will be implemented soon: Adhikari after meeting Shah

Bengal Opposition Leader on Monday met Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman before iterating once again that Citizenship Amendment Act was going to be implemented anytime soon.

Adhikari who met Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman — and demanded a probe into the alleged Rs 2 lakh crore scam mentioned in the CAG reports — said though CAA was not on the agenda of his meeting it was going to be implemented soon. Adhikari was also to meet Vice President Jagdeep Dhnkhar.

Adhikari who was summoned to the national Capital on an urgent basis, said, that the “CAA will be implemented soon,” reminding “a Government that can abrogate Article 370 can also enforce CAA … ‘Modi hai to Mumkin hai (where there is Modi everything is possible),” and adding CAA was however not on the agenda of his meeting with the top leaders of his party.

The CAA --- which has been dismissed by the Opposition parties as “redundant law framed with ulterior motives” --- is aimed at providing citizenship to the Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Parsis and other minorities who had to flee the neighbouring Pakistan, Bangaldesh and Afghanistan till December 31, 2014.

Adhikari refused to divulge what transpired in his meeting with the Home Minister saying, “I won’t share the topic of discussion but you will soon get to see things when actions follow in the days to come.”

When asked to comment on whether he was urgently called to Delhi to discuss the roadmap to the elections, the Bengal LoP who was flanked by two MPs Soumitra Khan and Locket Chatterjee said, “you will soon see the actions, reactions and the roadmap that was discussed.” On his discussion with the Finance Minister Adhikari said that he had asked for an investigation into the Rs 2 lakh score scam stated in the CAG reports.

“I met the Finance Minister and complained against the State Government … I mentioned about the scam that has taken place and mentioned in the CAG reports … I told Nirmala ji to act on the reports … there must be financial discipline when you running a Government … you running a Government in such a manner that you have to take a loan of Rs 6 lakh crore … there is a need to investigate the matters … I have demanded an investigation and requested the Finance Minister to first audit and then release the funds because there is no financial discipline,” he said.

Before Adhikari, Bengal BJP leader and minister Shantanu Thakur had earlier twice claimed that the CAA would happen soon. In fact he went a step forward claiming, “CAA is going to be implemented in another week’s time,” adding, “the Matuas and those others refugees who had to migrate to India in the wake of persecution will soon get their citizenship and their fate will no longer hand in balance.”
