Apparently with an eye on the panchayat elections Bengal Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari once again assured the people of the State that Citizenship Ammendment Act would soon be implemented in Bengal.

Asking the people to have faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party, Adhikari who was on Saturday addressing a BJP rally in Nadia district said, "have faith in the Prime Minister, have faith in the BJP ... The CAA will definitely be implemented in Bengal... No one can stop it."

A large part of Nadia is dominated by the Matua population. Matuas belong to the SC community who migrated from Bangladesh and settled mostly in Nadia, North and South 24 Parganas.

About 1 crore in numerical strength the Matua voters dominate more than 30 Assembly seats in southern Bengal.

A traditional vote bank of the Left Front the community has of late split into two haves ... with the BJP and TMC dividing between them the majority of Matua vote share

Drawing reference of Gujarat Adhikari said, "the CAA has been passed in Parliament and is in the process of being implemented in Gujarat... After this will be implemented in Bengal... You will not have to wait till the 2024 General elections."

Reacting to his statements TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said till Mamata was in power in Bengal CAA will not be allowed to take place in Bengal.

"Suvendu Adhikari relies on politics of falsehood... He had said that TMC government will not last beyond December... Now we are at the doorsteps of January... He ries on gimmickry to influence the poor people of Bengal... In order to win the panchayat elections... But he and his party will be rejected," Ghosh said.
