Three youths looted 500 grams gold jewellery from a shop in Paharganj. The incident came to light on Monday evening after the administration department of a four-floored hotel, Piyako, approached the police and informed that three youths, including a juvenile who checked-in in two separate rooms (no- 117 and 118) on March 17. They dug the floor of room number 117 to go down to a vacant shop and then they made a tunnel to reach the adjacent jewellery shop. After executing their plan, they checked out from the hotel around 3 am on Monday.
Police said the youths during check-in asked the hotel staff to give them the specific rooms on the first floor. "They were residing in room no-117 and room no-118. For the last three days, they instructed the hotel staff not to come for any room service. The incident came to light on Monday evening when the hotel staff went to clean the room and found that the floor was demolished," the officer added.
Investigation revealed that after demolishing the room number 117’s floor, they reached the vacant room of an old shop that had been vacant for the last five years and then dug up the tunnel to reach the jewellery shop abutting that room. However, when the accused entered the jewellery shop, they could not break its locker. “After failing to open its locker, they picked up jewellery of about 500 grams gold from the shop and came back to their rooms. They later checked out at 3 am,” the officer added.
