The rugged Bundelkhand region, which has been facing drought for three years in a row, is at the threshold of famine as scarcity of food and water has prompted mass exodus to neighbouring States.
The findings of a survey conducted by ‘Swaraj Abhiyan and Parmarth’, is an eye opener. Sample this : 53% of the locals have not eaten dal in the last eight months, over 60% children have not taken milk in this period and on an average one out of five families have slept empty stomach in the last two months.
The study was carried out in 108 villages of 27 tehsils spread across seven districts of Bundelkhand. The volunteers interviewed a total of 1,206 families.
