Builders, realtors owing Rs9K-cr to NOIDA authority face heat

Published on:

Following the directions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (NOIDA) has cracked the whip on defaulter builders and property developers who owe over Rs9,000 crore to the authority. The authority besides imposing penalty interest on the developers has also uploaded the list of defaulters on its website. The move will give immense relief to thousands of flat allotters who have made full payment to the builders but are waiting for years to get the possession of the flat.

The demand for action against the builders during the previous Samajwadi Party Government were ignored by the authority. The home buyers in Noida and Greater Noida  launched agitations against the builders. A delegation of the flat allotters had also met the Chief Ministers and later the Government had summoned the officials of the authority and the developer companies for the redressal of the grievances of the flat owners.

As per the rules, the builder cannot give possession of the flat to the owners without obtaining the completion certificate from the authority. This certificate is issued only after the developer clear all the dues of the authority.

During the previous Bahujan Samaj Party and the SP rule, the builders enjoying close proximity with the then political masters used to give possession of the flat without clearing the dues of the authority. The flat owners later faced litany of problems like getting the flat registered in his/her name, obtaining the electricity connection and other civic amenities.
