Taking a lead over other political parties, the Bahujan Samaj Party, on Tuesday, announced the names of two of its candidates for the coming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Ramesh Singh Yadav will be the BSP candidate from Bithoor assembly constituency in Kanpur and Kalmesh Ambedkar from Bharthana (reserved) assembly seat Etawah in the 2022 election.
The name of Kalmesh Ambedkar was announced by BSP’s Etawah district president Shilu Dohra on Tuesday.
Kamlesh Ambedkar is the wife of Bhimrao Ambedkar, chief sector incharge of the BSP for Kanpur division.
In 2007, Kamlesh's husband Bhimrao Ambedkar was elected as BSP MLA from Lakhna reserved seat, which has now been included in the Bharthana reserved seat, but he could not taste victory in the subsequent assembly elections.
The Bharthana reserved assembly constituency is presently held by Bharatiya Janata Party, from where Savitri Katheria is the ruling party’s MLA. Shilu Dohra claimed that the BJP would contest the 2022 assembly elections with full force. He said preparations were being made to field a candidate of Yadav or Shakya caste from Shivpal Singh Yadav's Jaswantnagar constituency.
Meanwhile. continuing its outreach programme ahead of the assembly polls, BSP has now decided to host a 'Brahmin Sammelan' at Vrindavan from August 1. This assumes significance as Lord Krishna is believed to have spent his childhood in this holy town. Before taking part in the event in which a lot of Brahmins are expected to participate, BSP general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra will visit the famous Banke Bihari temple. He claimed that both BJP and Samajwadi Party had failed to do anything for the development of Vrindavan and Mathura as compared to BSP.
On July 23, Mishra had offered prayers at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya and commenced the party's first phase of campaign to woo Brahmin voters. Brahmin sammelans were also held in Prayagraj and Ambedkar Nagar. Stressing that the real power would come only when Brahmins and Dalits in UP came together, Mishra said, "The Brahmin community constitutes 13 per cent of the state population but are still marginalised because they are not united.” BSP supremo Mayawati on Tuesday also tweeted that the opposition was in fear after the success of Brahmin sammelan held by the party with the first phase starting from Ayodhya.
“The favourable response and success of Brahmin sammelan held by Satish Mishra on my directive pointed that people had confidence in my party and would support them in the coming assembly election,” Mayawati asserted through her tweet on Tuesday.
