The Border Security Force (BSF) has ordered a Court of Inquiry against two senior paramilitary officers posted in Punjab sector to find out possible lapses along the border that facilitated the terrorists to sneak into the country from Pakistan and perpetrate the terror attack at Pathankot airbase.
Gurdaspur Deputy Inspector General (DIG) NK Mishra and Commandant of the 132nd battalion deployed in the area SS Dabas have been transferred from the area in view of the pending inquiry, officials said.
Officials said the BSF headquarters here has instituted a Court of Inquiry (CoI) into the possible breach along the International Border (IB) from this area in the recent past, following which a fact-finding team is also scouring the frontier locations for evidence.
The two officers along with their men were responsible for securing the IB in the area.
DIG A Srinivasan and Commandant IP Bhatia have replaced Mishra and Dabas.
The Court of Inquiry will ascertain the role of the commanders in the backdrop of Pathankot attack. The CoI will also seek to inquire similar lapses along the IB in Jammu," a source said.
Intelligence inputs and the NIA probe so far into the Pathankot airbase terror attack hav suggested that the six terrorists had sneaked into the country after crossing the river Ravi near Bamiyal village.
The area is suspected to be also used by the drug syndicate to smuggle drugs into Punjab. The NIA that is probing the Pathankot terror attack case has also visited the area and is looking into the possible nexus between the jehadis and the drug smugglers.
Following the intelligence reports, the role of the BSF has come under scrutiny.
BSF Director General DK Pathak along with other officials has toured the forward areas after the attack. Defence Ministry has also asked the paramilitary to give details of areas from where terrorists could have entered.
