A BSF officer was killed under mysterious circumstances in accidental firing in RS Pura area of Jammu frontier while his subordinate received bullet injuries on Friday morning.
The alleged firing took place inside the 94 Battalion headquarters of BSF in Miran Sahib area of RS Pura around 9 am.
According to official sources, “at least four BSF personnel of 94 Battalion were traveling in their official gypsy when alleged incident of accidental firing took place in which BSF inspector Reti Ram was killed while Sub-Inspector Ranjit Thakur received bullet injuries on his shoulder”. The accidental firing was reported from the service weapon of one of the two officers traveling in the gypsy.
A formal inquiry has been ordered to investigate the circumstances leading to the alleged firing incident. However, unconfirmed reports suggested that the two BSF officers had an altercation while they were traveling in the gypsy and in a fit of anger Sub-Inspector fired on his senior officer killing him on the spot. In the ensuing scuffle he too received injuries on his shoulder and was rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital. The reason behind taking extreme step could not be immediately known.
Embarrassed BSF officers remained tight lipped over the incident and had deployed adequate number of BSF jawans in the Government Medical College Hospital to prevent media access to the officer.
BSF spokesman claimed BSF inspector Reti Ram was killed in accidental firing while denying reports of any altercation before the firing incident. On the other hand, police too have started investigation in the case and have recovered two weapons some meters away from the BSF camp in Miran Sahib area of RS Pura.
