Director General of Border Security Force (BSF) DK Pathak on Thursday submitted a situation report along with an analysis of reasons for ceasefire violations by Pakistan on the International Border between the two countries to the Government.

When asked Pathak did not elaborate on the contents of the report citing strategic constraints. Pathak who returned last evening after visiting various sectors facing unprovoked firing from the Pakistani forces told The Pioneer, “The morale of the troops are very high and they equipped to return fire with high volume. They continue to remain alert despite facing shelling all through the night.”

Stating that the situation remained by and large the same, the DG said the onus of deescalating the situation remains on the Pakistani side.On being asked if any overtures towards diffusing the situation or holding flag level meetings, he said, "I do not want to comment on the issue."

When asked to comment on the extent of the damage inflicted on Pakistan, he said "it has been more than proportionate to what we have sustained."

"There is enough war wastage reserve and we are ensuring more rapid volume in retaliatory fire. Our boys are alert and awake all through night to respond to every provocative fire from their side," he added. Senior BSF officials said as many as nine batallions are deployed along the International Border facing unprovoked shelling from Pakistan Rangers for the last one week leading to seven casualties and injuries to 43 civilians, mostly civilians.
