The Bharat Rashtra Samithi legal cell has served legal notices on Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president B Mahesh Kumar Goud, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Congress MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna over their alleged claims that water from the Kondapochamma Sagar reservoir was diverted to the farmlands of BRS supremo and former chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
The notices were issued on Monday by BRS general secretary and legal cell in-charge Soma Bharat Kumar, who demanded that the three leaders immediately and unconditionally delete the allegedly defamatory posts from their social media accounts and withdraw the allegations.
The BRS alleged that the remarks were part of a campaign aimed at tarnishing Chandrashekhar Rao’s reputation and misleading the public regarding the State’s irrigation projects.
The party maintained that allegations concerning the diversion of water from Kondapochamma Sagar to Chandrashekhar Rao’s farmlands were baseless and unsubstantiated.
The notices come days after the BRS legal cell initiated legal action against the management and editor of Telugu daily Velugu over a report concerning the same issue.
The BRS warned the three Congress leaders that failure to comply with the notices would result in further legal action, including defamation proceedings and other remedies available under law.
The party said it would not tolerate what it termed as misinformation concerning Telangana’s irrigation infrastructure and alleged attempts to politically target the former Chief Minister.
