Bride elopes with lover after ‘nikah’

Published on:

A ‘barat’ returned home without the bride in Mauima here on Sunday. After the nikah the bride eloped with her boyfriend and sent a message that that there was no meaning of that ‘nikah’ for her.

The angry ‘baratis’ returned but were helpless as the police intervened and stressed on a compromise.

The ‘barat’ departed from a small village of Mauima to Sultanpur with the groom. They were given a grand reception there and the ‘nikah’ was performed. Things were normal for about half an hour, but suddenly the members of the bride’s family started running from one place to another with pale faces. The bride was missing.

After about an hour a relative received the message of the bride that the ‘nikah’ was meaningless for her and she was happy with her boyfriend.

Somehow information  reached the groom’s side and a heated argument took place between the two sides. In the meantime someone informed the police and they reached the spot.

The police asked both the parties to sit together with a cool mind and reach a compromise. The ‘baratis’ returned home without the bride.
