Schoolchildren are expected to just spend their time studying or playing.
But,ironically, the ground reality in poll-bound Jammu is rather hurtful. Here, children are usually busy running petty errands for their teachers during school time.On Friday, a correspondent came across a group of schoolchildren, in uniform, assisting driver of a water tanker of J&K police parked outside the Government High School in Channi, Himmat.
After a brief chat with the children, he came to know that there was no water in the school as their water reservoir is empty and one of the senior teacher had arranged a water tanker through her contacts. However, when the tanker arrived, the schoolchildren were deployed by the school staff in assisting the driver and filling the water reservoir.
Instead of attending their classes, a group of over enthusiastic children stepped out of the school premises and stood near the water tanker — holding water pipe — till the water tanker dumped the water supply in the school reservoir.
Meanwhile, the senior schoolteachers and other staff members kept standing in the school courtyard, supervising the entire drill. The children of the same school were earlier spotted by the same correspondent at the office of a local gas agency where they were deputed by their teacher to fetch an lPG cylinder to cook mid-day meal.
