Both Modi, Mamata only make tall promises: Rahul

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were two persons who were lavish in making promises but miserable in keeping them.

Speaking in an election rally at Raghunathganj in Murshidabad district Gandhi said “the people brought Modi to power after he promised two crore jobs but got nothing in return.” Similarly he said Banerjee had promised jobs to 70 lakh people but not a single job was created.

“Today the situation is that the people of Bengal have to migrate to other States for employment.”

Banerjee was acting like Modi who “promised to bring black money to India but did nothing against the likes of Vijay Mallya and lalit Modi,” Gandhi said, adding the Chief Minister also did nothing against the corrupt save making tall promises.

On Banerjee’s latest statement that she would take action on those found guilty in acts of corruption like Saradha and Narada, Gandhi said time had elapsed when she could take action. “Now it is for the people to act. You could have taken action in the last five years. But you refused to do so. It is too late now,” he said adding “now it will be our turn when the Alliance Government will act.”

The Congress had brought the Trinamool to power he said adding “without the Congress’ help the Trinamool could not have won the 2011 elections. But after the Parivartan the Chief Minister herself changed. Her ways changed, her conduct changed her style of functioning changed. She forgot all her promises made to the Congress and to the people of the State. There was no development, no industry, no job in the past five years.”

Gandhi said, “after coming to power the Alliance Government will not only take account of the corrupt people but also it will give special focus on law and order situation and ensure safety and security for women.”

Gandhi said though the Chief Minister called herself the leader of the poor she would do nothing to implement the Food Securities Act which was implemented by the UPA Government.
