Body of maid found at quarter in Assam Air Force Colony

A decomposed body of a girl was recovered from the official quarter of an Army Colonel at the Air Force Colony in Rowriah in Assam’s Jorhat district on Thursday. Police reached the spot after neighbours complained of a foul smell emanating from near lt Col Sourav Sood’s quarter. Police found the decomposed body of a girl from a ground floor room of the two-storey official quarter.

“The room was locked from outside. When we broke open; the decomposed body of a girl, who used to work as a maid in Sood’s quarter, was found. While Sood, a doctor with the Army, has been living in the upper floor with his family, the maid was living separately in the room and there were separate entry and exit for both the enclosures,” said police.

“Preliminary investigation revealed it to be a case of murder as there were slit marks on the throat of the body. She was probably killed about two days back and locked by miscreants,” said the police. “Sood’s wife told us that the maid did not come to work since Tuesday. They tried to contact her on phone but it was switched off. They also came down to check but, found the room locked from outside,” said police.

“We are collecting all the evidences and we hope to crack the case soon,” police said. Police said that Sood has been in Kolkata for the last four to five days and added that the body has been sent for post-mortem and police are waiting for the report.
