BMC declares 27 buildings 'most dangerous'

Published on:

Ahead of the arrival of monsoon in the metropolis, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday served notices on residents of its own 27 "most dangerous" buildings to vacate the place and move to safer places, and also warned them that it would not take any responsibility for either loss of lives or damage to property in the event of a collapse.

Though this is not for the first time that the BMC has issued notices to the residents in the dilapidated buildings in the city, the civic administration has this time around made it amply clear that it can in no way be held responsible for the loss of lives or damage to the structure in the event of a mishap. Invoking Section 354 of the Bombay Municipal Corporation Act, 1888, the Municipal Commissioner declared 27 BMC-owned buildings as "most dangerous" buildings directed the residents living in them to vacate the place and move to safer places.
