According to eye witnesses  Khalid was travelling in an auto with his two-year-old daughter and the daughter was crying as he was scolding and hitting her. Two locals on a bike noticed the crying child, followed the auto and brought it to a halt, and then forced him  to step outside. When they confronted him about the child, an annoyed Khalid  refused to tell them anything, which resulted in the two men branding him as a child-abductor and beating him up. It was reported that he was crying and saying that it was his own child. By the time police arrived to disperse the crowd he was beaten up by the mob. The police freed Khalid and the child and took them to the police station to investigate the incident. They found out after speaking to his wife Shameema that he was carrying his own child.

After this, he was asked to go. The police then reportedly spoke to the locals and counselled them about not believing fake WhatsApp forwards.
