The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will come out with a ‘Vision Document’ on Panchayati Raj before the 2014 lok Sabha polls, national convener of BJP’s Panchayat Cell Mohan Singh Rawat said on Friday.
“The ‘Vision Document’ would focus on lacunae in the existing Panchayati Raj Act while suggesting suitable amendments,” he said. Rawat said that the BJP wants a uniform ‘Panchayati Raj law’ across the nation. The party would like to become the ‘Torch Bearer’ of Panchayati Raj institutions in the country.’
In Chhattisgarh, the party’s National Convenor of the Panchayat Cell said that a meeting of office-bearers of the BJP’s Chhattisgarh State Panchayat Cell was held today in which a discussion on development works completed in the rural areas was taken up. Rawat said that a series of panchayat level conventions have been planned between last week of August and September 25 this year to be held in various districts of Chhattisgarh in the constituencies of the party MPs to discuss work done for the backward classes and those under various Government schemes.
To a query whether any directives had been received by the BJP’s Panchayat Cell in Chhattisgarh regarding Assembly poll preparations from BJP’s National Poll Campaign chief and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi , he stated : ‘Whatever directives would be received from the central leadership, we would follow it’.
To another query on how the Panchayat Cell would hold the conventions in the Naxal affected areas considering the fact that a cousin of a Senior Cabinet Minister in Chhattisgarh was murdered by the insurgents on Thursday, Rawat stated: ‘The Government would provide security for conventions to be held in the Naxal affected areas’.
