The Karnataka BJP is gearing up for its PM candidate Narendra Modi’s maha rally on Sunday at the palace grounds in Bangalore. Modi, who is coming to Bangalore for the first time after he being declared the party’s PM candidate, is expected to take on the appeasement politics and other issues, which include the proposed Anti-Superstition Bill.
The BJP is also anticipating that the Modi’s rally would change the political prospects for the saffron party which has been decimated by Yeddyurappa and Congress in the recent elections. The party which has put in hard work to galvanise its strength is hoping that Modi’s rally would be a game changer for the party in the State. A party source told The Pioneer that a team of intellectuals have prepared some talking point for Modi based on current political situation in the State.
State BJP president Prahlad Joshi said Modi will arrive at the rally venue by helicopter. The BJP will provide a booklet comprising literature on its ideology, Modi’s achievements and the UPA Government’s failures at the rally, he added.
Joshi said, “More than 3.5 lakh people have registered their names to attend the meeting and 26,000 people have registered through online. Twelve marriage halls have been booked for accommodation of people from other cities.’’ He said that more than 2,500 software engineers would participate in the rally and 108 BJP activists from Udupi will attend the event in Modi’s costumes.
Meanwhile, the ruling Congress has chosen the birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to organise a counter rally to BJP’s maha rally.
In another development, many posters of KJP president Yeddyurappa along with Narendra Modi around the palace grounds area have come up indicating a political merger of the KJP with the BJP. However, Yeddyurappa ruled out any merger with the BJP but said “he only supports Narendra Modi”.
But BJP leaders in the State refused to comment by saying any decision to re-induct Yeddyurappa into the party will be taken only by the party’s Central leadership.
The City police have thrown massive security blanket across Bangalore and made elaborate arrangements to deal with any untoward situation. After Patna bomb blasts, the Bangalore police have made elaborate security arrangements around the venue.
