When Jagdambika Pal was joining the Bharatiya Janata Party, in presence of party’s national president Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Wednesday, at the same time some party workers were burning his effigy at the State party headquarters here saying his entry will harm the party.
“What had happened in New Delhi was very bad. The party leadership opened the door for a leader who had criticised party workers in Basti and adjoining areas. His membership will demoralise the party workers in eastern Uttar Pradesh,” Anuj Chaudhry, a young party worker who burnt the effigy of Pal told The Pioneer. Raising anti-Pal slogan these workers, who were staging a dharna at the compound of party office, moved out on the busy Vidhan Sabha road and set the effigy on fire raising slogan like: “Jahan Maal waahan Pal”
Party sources claim that Pal is enjoying the support of Yogi Adityanath who has played a crucial role in former Congress leader’s entry into BJP. The party workers, mostly youths, gathered near the party office since Wednesday morning.
If party leadership wants these dedicated workers to work like a well-oiled machine it should heed the advice of the ground level workers who know the reality. “If Pal contests on BJP ticket he is destined to lose the election,” Anuj said.
Pal, who was Congress MP from Dumariaganj seat in eastern Uttar Pardesh, had resigned from Congress and had joined BJP in New Delhi. He is also expected to contest election from Dumariaganj.
As a show of strength Yuva Vahini had staged a protest in support of Pal in party office. They claim that Pal will win Dumariaganj seats easily.Party will announce candidate for Dumariaganj on Thursday.
