BJP won 10 more seats in Gurugram polls, says Khattar

Even as the incumbent BJP in Haryana faced major embarrasement in Gururgam civic body polls, failing to achive a clear majority, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal on Tuesday chose to attack the Opposition for its poor performance in the polls.

On failing to manage a majority in the 35-member Gurugram Municipal Corporation, Manohar lal said that the BJP had won 4 seats in the previous elections but this time, it registered victory on 14 seats. The mayor in Gurugram MC will be from the BJP, he added.

After his party's poor performance in the Gurugram MC election, the Chief Minister while talking to mediapersons in Gurugram said the Opposition was no where in the polls. While INlD won only one seat, the Congress did not contest on party symbol, he said.

The Gurugram MC election was seen as a litmus test for Manohar lal Government and the senior BJP leaders including Haryana Cabinet Ministers, State MPs, MlAs did not left any stone unturned in canvassing for the party candidates.

A clear majority in Gurugam MC polls had eluded the BJP, belying its gloated claim of winning over 30 seats out of total 35.

As the ruling pary failed to impress over five lakh voters of Millennium city, they voted in favor of 20 winning independent candidates. Haryana's main opposition party, Indian National lok Dal which contested on its symbol on 20 seats, had to be content with just one seat.

After the results, the opposition had claimed that the results reflected the voters' anger against the BJP led Central and Haryana Governments.
