BJP will contest 450 seats in 2014 lS polls: Rajnath

BJP president Rajnath Singh said here on Friday that the party would contest 450 seats in the 2014 lok Sabha elections. But he refused to divulge details about the new parties which are expected to join the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance.

“Details like our new alliance partners and the election strategy will be disclosed at the proper time. It is too early to speak about such details,” a beaming party chief told reporters at Kamalalayam, headquarters of the BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit.

Singh said though he had a meeting with TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, he did not discuss about electoral alliance. “The meeting was to discuss about the Union Government’s move to form Telangana State,” he said.

The BJP boss said his party stand by its earlier decision regarding the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. “We want the Union Government to address all concerns of the people of Andhra Pradesh before they form the separate State,” said Singh.

Though buoyed by the success of Thursday’s youth wing meet of the BJP at  Tiruchiappalli, which was participated by more than 1,00,000 people, the party chief did not entertain any questions on the possible electoral alliance partners from Tamil Nadu.

Reacting to Union Minister of State Shashi Tharoor’s statement that the Government had consulted the BJP before the Ordinance to supersede the Supreme Court judgement on the conviction of the Members of Parliament and Assemblies in charges of corruption, the party chief said no such discussions had taken place.
