Close on the heels of CBI asking to the Trinamool Congress to explain its income particularly from sales of paintings and books, the Bengal BJP has asked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to clarify her stance on whether her party had amassed disproportionate wealth as was alleged by the Opposition.
The people wanted to know about the alleged disproportionate wealth of the Trinamool Congress, State BJP president Rahul Sinha has said adding “the known source of income of Trinamool does not seem to be proportionate with its expenditure” wondering why the contribution from businessmen were not shown properly in the accounts of the party.
“Now the situation is that the people have started asking about the whole mystery and the Chief Minister being the head of the Government and the ruling party has a duty to explain it all to the people.”
On CBI notice to the party about the sources of its income Sinha said, “The notice is justified because a lot of public money and the credibility of a Government are involved.” The CBI has been probing the multi-crore Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund cases.
Sinha said it was the duty of the Chief Minister to come clean on the issue particularly because “a lot of questions are being made about the sales of her paintings to which she repeatedly claimed was the main financial source of her party.” The party which claims to be a paragon of virtue should explain uneasy questions he maintained.
Meanwhile the Opposition left on Thursday cried out against the State Governments alleged “political victimisation” of the kin of the Opposition leaders. The immediate context of the protest was a raid conducted by the anti-corruption bureau at the office of Usha Mishra the wife of Opposition leader Suryakanto Mishra who ran an NGO.
Raids were conducted for the second day on Thursday and many files were seized, sources said while the Marxists said it was an attempt by the Government to turn the focus from chit funds and Saradha to other sides. “First let them prove irregularities then we will answer” a left leader said.
