The Bengal BJP on Thursday demanded resignation of the Director General of Police GMP Reddy for “making untrue depositions before the Calcutta High Court” where he appeared to explain the stance of the court-constituted Special Investigation Team that probed the infamous Parui murder case in which Sagar Ghosh the father of a rebel Trinamool leader Hriday Ghosh was shot dead by alleged Trinamool goons in the last year’s panchayat elections.
Annoyed with the SIT’s dropping of the name of prime accused and Birbhum district Trinamool president Anubrata Mandal from the charge-sheet despite him being named by the complainants in the FIR the High Court had earlier summoned the DGP who headed the SIT to explain his stance. The High Court also considered the SIT’s submission of the report before the Sessions Court instead of the High Court that had constituted the “court-monitored SIT” as gross defiance of its orders.
Deposing before the Court the DGP on Thursday not only gave clean chit to Mandal who had a day before the last year’s murder asked his supporters in a rally held barely a furlong away from the victim’s house to torch the rebels’ houses and bomb police vehicles but also said he had presented the reports to the Sessions Court as he was advised by legal experts to do so.
Reacting sharply to the DGP’s stated “untrue statement” before the Court State BJP president Rahul Sinha said, “Director General of Police being the top most police officer of the State should resign his post immediately as he has misused it by allowing himself to come under the pressure of the ruling party and make untrue statements.
It is ridiculous on the part of a DGP to give clean chit to a person who has been named the accused number one in the FIR and who is seen inciting people to raid opposition houses and bomb police vehicles.”Hriday Ghosh who recently joined the BJP had been fighting for a CBI investigation into the Parui case.
Meanwhile yet another PCC leader on Thursday joined the BJP.Jayprakash Majumdar a senior Congress leader joined the BJP as “it seems that the BJP is the only party that can drive away the Trinamool Congress from the State.”
