BJP tended to have arrived in Bengal with a bang. A clarion call by party central leader Kailash Vijaybargiya from a huge muscle-flexing rally to uproot an ‘unruly’ Trinamool Congress Government and a forewarning by the State BJP president to take up arms to drive away the ruling party thugs tended to make the Monday’s saffron broadcast pretty loud and clear.
In a noteworthy development, the two most assertive statements came from an increasingly confident leadership a day before party national president Amit Shah was to begin his three-day Bengal sojourn.
And the growing confidence in the higher echelon was matched by an equally forceful BJP rank and file that came put in large numbers defying a scorching sun, fought pitched battles with charging
Trinamool goons throughout Birbhum and as also in Coochbehar in North Bengal where half-a-dozen workers of both the parties were left injured following intermittent clashes.
“The Trinamool Congress has given Bengal the most inefficient and corrupt Gover-
nment run by goons. It is also guilty of politicisation of bureaucracy,” Vijaybargiya told a houseful audience at Suri theheadquarters of Birbhum district alleging "the Trinamool Congress is involved in fake currency rackets as has been reported by the IB."
Hence time had come to uproot the corrupt Government he said. "We will not rest till we drive out this corrupt regime from Bengal," he added.
"The Trinamool is lucky to have come to power for the second time but they will not come for the third time. In the next elections they will not even be fit to sit in the opposition," the BJP central leader said insisting "half of the ministers in the present current will be in jail by that time."
In a more vigorous attack that could pump up the grassroots ahead of the coming panchayat elections Ghosh said he would not hesitate to take up arms if need be to drive away the cow-traffickers and syndicate kingpins. "I will even consider taking up gun and sword if need be to take on these cow-traffickers and syndicate kingpins who have ruined the social fabric of Bengal."
