BJP ups ante against Playboy Club in Goa

Criticising its own Government’s decision to grant a licence for Playboy Club to operate in Goa, State BJP president Vinay Tendulkar said that the club was not in sync with the Goa’s culture.

“We are interested in keeping the culture of Goa intact. And from what we know about Playboy, that kind of thing is not our culture,” Tendulkar said in a Press conference.

Tendulkar’s statements come barely a day after BJP MlA Michael lobo, representing the constituency in which the club will be open, moved a calling attention motion in the Assembly questioning the Government’s permission to the club.

Playboy franchise PB lifestyle has already approached the Tourism Department to start one of the many clubs it plans to start in India, in Goa, in the beach village of Candolim, located 20 kms from here.

Party’s vice president Wilfred Mesquita was also on the same page as his president saying that they would sort out the matter with their Government. “As a party we are against Playboy and we will talk to the Government and sort out the matter,” Mesquita said.

lobo, who is the North Goa president of the party, has threatened to go on a hunger strike if permission is given to the club to start.

Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar has sought until Monday to formally decide on the issue.
