BJP to move SC if U'khand HC verdict is unfavourable

Stating that it will approach the Supreme Court if the High Court decision  on Uttarakhand political crisis was not favourable to the party, the BJP on Wednesday said the nine MlAs  of the breakaway Congress  group  in the State Assembly "not losing their membership"  would help the party  consolidate its political  standing vis-à-vis the Congress in the State.

In the backdrop of strong observations by the High Court against the President's rule, BJP's National general secretary  Kailash Vijayvargiya, whose coordination with the Congress rebel MlAs played crucial role in precipitating a political crisis against the Harish Rawat-led Congress government, held a meeting  with party president Amit Shah, senior leader Satpal Maharaj,   national secretary Anil Baluni and  others and reviewed the  situation. The party will move the Supreme Court if the verdict in the High Court was "not favourable" , said Vijayvargiya. " We will go to the Supreme Court to change it," he said. The BJP leader said the role of Governor and Speaker in the current political crisis in  the state  beginning with the defeat of the financial bill "and allowing a long rope to the Congress"  was "doubtful ".

The President's rule will have to be ratified by the Parliament this the coming session. Vijayavargiya said in case of nine rebel Congress MlAs not losing their membership his party would be in position to cobble up a majority in the state to form the government. In that case, ratification of President's rule (which is difficult ,given Congress majority in RS) would not be needed, said the BJP General Secretary.

"let's wait for court's verdict first", he hastened to add. The role of BSP,  Uttarakhand Kranti Dal and Independent MlAs will be important in the immediate future. Assembly polls in the hill state are scheduled early next year.

Baluni  said the Congress government was  in minority the day financial bill could not be passed on March 18. Pointing to the Governor's role ,  he  said the constitutional crisis emerged in the state when the state Budget could not get majority support  in the Assembly and   from March 18 to March 28 governor maintained that he had not received the financial bill.

The President later  signed an ordinance to authorise expenditure  in Uttarakhand which is currently  under central rule. The Congress moved the court against the President's rule and issuance of  Ordinance by the Centre.
