BJP to launch Waqf awareness campaign in UP

In a strategic outreach effort, the BJP is set to launched a state-wide awareness campaign to inform Muslims about the benefits of the amended Waqf law. The initiative, titled Waqf Reform Jan Jagran Abhiyan, aims to dispel misconceptions and connect poor and underprivileged Muslims with the party’s development agenda.

The campaign, which will be spearheaded by the BJP Minority Morcha, will cover Muslim-majority areas across Uttar Pradesh, including the state capital, Lucknow. Through public meetings, door-to-door outreach, and informational sessions, the party plans to educate the community on how the revised Waqf Act is designed for their socio-economic empowerment. Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for Minority Welfare, Danish Azad Ansari, emphasised that the reformed Waqf law is intended to ensure that Waqf properties serve their true purpose — the welfare of economically and educationally backward Muslims.

“This law has been brought for the economic upliftment of Muslims. Every poor Muslim stands to benefit from it,” said Azad. “Unfortunately, certain vested interests who have misused Waqf properties for personal gains are spreading misinformation. The opposition is trying to create fear by claiming that properties are being taken away.”

He reiterated that under the new provisions, the primary right over Waqf properties belongs to poor and needy Muslims. “These properties will now be used for the community’s education, healthcare, and economic development. This is yet another gift from the Modi government to the Muslim community, following a series of welfare schemes aimed at inclusion and empowerment,” he added. As criticism from opposition parties mounts, accusing the government of interfering with minority institutions, the BJP is countering by highlighting the alleged irregularities in Waqf property management under previous regimes.

“The opposition is not worried about the community; they are worried about losing control over these assets. We are determined to ensure that every inch of Waqf land benefits those it was originally meant for,” Azad stated.

To ensure effective communication at the grassroots level, BJP Minority Morcha workers will undergo training sessions on the key features of the amended Waqf Act. These workers will then lead the campaign in their respective regions, ensuring that accurate information reaches the community directly.

With the 2027 Assembly elections on the horizon, political observers view this campaign as a calculated move to broaden the BJP’s base among Muslim voters, especially those from economically weaker sections.

The BJP claims that the Waqf reforms are not just a legal amendment but part of a broader narrative of inclusive development and transparency in governance.
