Intensifying its tirade against Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh seeking his resignation following corruption charges, BJP will launch a week-long protest ‘Virbhadra Hatao-Pradesh Bachao’ at all the district headquarters. BJP general secretary Randhir Sharma said that party will launch the week-long protests from Saturday at different district headquarters in phase wise manner. “The protests will be launched from January 4 to January 10 at different district headquarters.
“A memorandum to the Governor will be submitted through Deputy Commissioners of different districts demanding CBI inquiry on the Chargesheet submitted by the party and resignation of Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on corruption allegations,” said Sharma. He added that image of the State has taken a toll due to corruption allegations against Chief Minister. “In our protest campaign ‘Virbhadra hatao-Pradesh Bachao,’ we will expose the Chief Minister and the Cabinet Ministers involved in corrupt practices,” added Sharma.
On Saturday, former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal will spearhead the protest campaign from Hamirpur district while on same day protest will also be held at Shimla district led by state BJP chief Satpal Singh Satti. Party veteran and Rajya Sabha MP Shanta Kumar and Hamirpur lok Sabha MP Anurag Thakur will participated in the protests at Dharamshala and Bilaspur respectively on January 8. Satti will also lead protest campaign at Una district which is his home district.
Every BJP MlAs have been asked to mobilize the people to the district headquarters to participate in the campaign and duties have been assigned to senior MlAs and party leaders to lead the protest in their respective districts. Sharma however stressed that it will be peaceful but strong protest. Several Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activists are also likely to participate in the protests. Opposition is trying to consolidate its base on the basis of recent corruption allegations against chief minister ahead of the 2014-lok Sabha polls.
Despite of Congress general secretary and State in-charge Ambika Soni on Friday saying that allegations against Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh are not new and every time election approaches, opposition rakes up the same allegations and issues, against Himachal Pradesh CM, BJP is not likely to let the issue go, so easily.
