BJP to go it alone in Kashmir polls

Even as master strategist of the Congress party Ghulam Nabi Azad is yet to make public his decision on contesting the Assembly polls, BJP Rajya Sabha MP and in-charge J&K State, Avinash Rai Khanna on Monday announced the BJP would contest on all the 87 Assembly seats without forging any pre-poll alliance in the State.

“We won’t be entering into any pre-poll alliance with any political party as we are considering to field our candidates on all the 87 Assembly constituencies in the State,” Avinash Rai Khanna told reporters here at party headquarters.

Riding high on the recent victories of the BJP in Haryana and Maharashtra, Khanna maintained,”We will go beyond 44 seats and form the next Government in Jammu & Kashmir.”

Upbeat party workers of the BJP chasing Mission 44 plus to form the first ever Government in the State are already canvassing in different parts of the State and organising mass contact programmes to expose the poor governance of the Omar Abdullah led alliance Government. On the other hand, the faction-ridden Congress camp is still struggling to finalise the names of the party candidates.

For the Congress, the stakes are too high in the erstwhile Doda region as it won five out of six Assembly seats in 2008 Assembly polls. This time BJP is all set to rock their boat by making inroads in the hilly region. For the first phase of polls beginning November 25, senior BJP leaders from Jammu have dispatched to different destinations in leh and landlocked districts of Doda and Kishtwar for supervising the canvassing.

Banking on the pro-Modi wave in the region, the BJP is  in the process of finalising the name of the party candidates for the 10 Assembly segments of Doda, Kishtwar,Ramban and ladakh.
