Gujarat BJP organisation is making big plans to mark the occasion of Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel’s 74th birthday on Friday, November 21. The State unit of the saffron party is set to enrol one lakh new women members to pay tribute to the first woman Chief Minister of Gujarat.
Sources in the Gujarat BJP informed that the task to enrol one lakh new women members has been given to the State BJP’s Mahila Morcha. According to senior party leaders, it would be the first-of-its-kind enrollment drive in which women will campaign door-to-door to enrol members in such a huge number in a single day.
This move of BJP came immediately after Gujarat Government passed a Bill recommending 50 per cent reservation to women in local body elections during the recently-concluded Assembly session. As per an estimate, there would be requirement of at least 65,000 women candidates for the local bodies – Municipal Corporations, Municipalities, Panchayats etc. Through this enrollment drive, the BJP workers, especially females will also spread the State Government initiative for women.
According to the sources the enrollment drive would be spread across all the 33 districts. Women members of the Gujarat BJP would campaign door-to-door and persuade women to join BJP. Already enrollment forms have been distributed to various women organizations and groups, said a source in the party.
