The BJP may induct three more General Secretaries to fill-up existing vacancies and provide wider regional participation with an eye on organisational and electoral expansion.
According to sources, the potential candidates for the posts could hail from Karnataka, North-East and West Bengal. While the party would have a tough assembly poll contest with the Congress in Karnataka, it is trying to expand and consolidate its electoral gains in the North-East and West Bengal.
Presently, there are seven general Secretaries, three short of the total recommended strength.
The incumbent General Secretaries are Arun Singh (UP), Kailash Vijayvargiya (MP), Bhupender Yadav (Rajasthan), Ram Madhav (AP), Anil Jain (Haryana), Murlidhar Rao (AP) and Saroj Pandey (Chhattisgarh). (Ram lal is General Secretary (Organisation) who happens to be a go-between the BJP and RSS.)
At present, out of the seven General Secretaries five are from North India which calls for representation to other regions, they said.
Refusing to confirm names, sources hinted that the appointments could be made before February 18 when BJP shifts its headquarters from 11, Ashok Road to a more swanky and spacious office close to ITO.
The inauguration of the new office at 11 am would be done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
