BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi got support of his party in his fight against the RJD supremo lalu Prasad’s alleged corrupt practices. At the State executive meeting at Kishanganj, Bihar BJP president Nityanand Rai announced to launch a “Pol khol” (expose) campaign against lalu and his family across the State from May 15.
He also said that the party workers would visit every nook and corner of Bihar to tell the people about the “corrupt” practices of lalu and exert pressure on the Nitish-led Government to act.
For almost a month, Sushil Modi took up cudgels to expose his bête noire and came out with the “documentary evidence” about the benami lands and other properties, which he said had been registered in the names of lalu’s sons and daughters on the pretext of gift by senior politicians who parted with their properties in prime locations in hope of getting party tickets and ministerial berths. However, no other leader of BJP so far had come out to extend moral support to Sushil Modi even as RJD leaders too brought out “evidence” against him and his family members for amassing huge wealth while in power.
Rai also took a swipe at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for compromising with his principles and allowing lalu family to raise huge properties by hook or by crook. Sushil Modi was jubilant and said he had started his exposure campaign with the blessings of the central leadership.
On the other hand, lalu has failed to elicit support from other parties of the grand alliance of which the RJD is the major partner. Nitish is maintaining a stoic silence over the issue.
despite prodding by Modi to take action, order CBI probe and drop lalu’s two sons from the Ministry. No other leader of the JD(U) came out in his support till recently. Only a few days back Nitish’s close aide RCP Singh said the issue was concerned to lalu and RJD and they would reply to the charges.
RJD is holding its state executive meeting at Rajgir where lalu send a message for unity to all the non-NDA parties to take on BJP in 2019. He announced to hold a meeting of the top leaders of those parties including Congress in August at Gandhi Maidan here. “It is high time that all the anti BJP parties in UP, Bengal and Odisha come on a platform else it would be too late,” he said and warned that BJP was ought to eliminate the constitution and democratic and fundamental rights. He said a Bihar like maha gathbandhan was needed on national level.
The RJD leaders were simmering with anger for JD(U) distancing itself from lalu when he needed their moral support at a time tirade being launched against him by the BJP leader. They were angry over the statement of JD(U)’s RCP Singh who said that party’s stand on benami assets was very clear and that his party was not supposed to defend anybody being accused of corruption. Reacting over this RJD MlA Bhai Birendra said Singh was himself involved in corruption and they should not treat RJD as weak and defensive. Deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav tried to extinguish fire by advising rank and file of his party not to give unnecessary statements.
