The BJP stunned the ruling TRS by winning the State legislative Council seat from graduate constituency of Hyderabad-Ranga Reddy-Mehbubnagar. BJP’s N Ramchandra Rao defeated N Devi Prasad Rao by a big margin of 13,318 votes. Congress polled only 2,856 votes clearly indicating that the party is yet to recover in the State.
Ballots were counted on Wednesday evening. Rao is an advocate while Devi Prasad, a former president of Telangana Non-Gazetted Officers Association, resigned from the Government service to enter the fray. The contest became prestigious as several top leaders of the BJP campaigned for Rao.
