Fearing that the probe into criminal cases would be the biggest casualty in Uttar Pradesh, the state unit of BJP said that Government decision to appoint policemen on religious lines in ‘thanas’ would hamper police investigation.
“Government decision to appoint Muslim cops is a clear attempt to divide the society on the religious lines. This shows the Government is not keen to solve criminal cases but wants to send message that it cares only for Muslims,”
BJP chief spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said in his daily press briefing here on Monday.
He said that this decision smacks of appeasement policy of the Samajwadi party Government. “The Government that has failed to bring law and order back on rails has created a chasm among employees by appointing cops on religious lines. How can Government appoint cops in police stations not on merit but according to the religion they represent,” Pathak asked.
“The Samajwadi Party has taken steps to please Muslims. First it announced construction of boundary walls around Muslim graveyards and then declared financial help for only Muslim girls ignoring students of other caste, creed and religion,” he said.
He said that this is the Government that even withdrew cases against terrorists drawing flaks from the court. Why cannot this Government look for integrated development of the society instead of looking it through the prism of religion, Pathak asked.
“As the Government has failed on all fronts and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav knows that people will teach Samajwadi party a lesson in the forthcoming lok Sabha elections therefore he has taken these decision that would further divide the society on religious lines. This will only increase acrimony between Hindus and Muslims,” Pathak said.
