Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday slammed Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for “misleading” farmers and sought them to not to get misguided by “rumours” spread against the NDA Government’s land Acquisition Ordinance and other policies.
Addressing a Kisan Mahapanchayat in his native district Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh, the Home Minister said, a Kisan Maha rally will not help Rahul or Sonia “in misleading farmers against the land Acquisition policy.” “Modi-led NDA Government is committed for improving the lives of the farmers, who have become hopeless because of the Congress rule and its faulty policies,” he said.
Singh said his Government was making all efforts to save farmers from taking extreme steps like committing suicide for which the NDA Government was framing up new policies which would completely be farmer friendly.
Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s seriousness in bringing an improvement in the lives of farmers, Singh said: “When Modi was leaving for his foreign tour, the same night he called me on my phone and asked to send the proposal for his signature so that this new norm of 33 per cent from 50 per cent may come into effect from the very next day, before he leaves the country and our farmers may not have to suffer anymore.”
Another senior leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad charged Rahul with “insulting the most popular mandate” by terming the BJP-led NDA Government as “anti-people”.
Addressing a Press conference here after the Congress’s Kissan-Khet Majdoor, Prasad said while Rahul spoke about the Gujarat model, the BJP would like to know from Sonia and Rahul “as to what is the Vadra model of development and land Acquisition”. “Rahul Gandhi needs to understand that India is no monarchy and the popular choice is the BJP,” said the BJP leader.
Responding to Rahul’s charges against the Central Government allegedly making changes in the land Acquisition Act of 2013, the BJP leader asked “why is Rahul Gandhi stating a white lie by saying that amendments have been done to favour industrialists”.
